Black Dog Rescue is heavily invested in the welfare of our dogs. As a volunteer group, we rely on hard work and continuous investment. Below are the some of the foster and adoption stories that keep us going.
If you are interested in finding your special friend, make sure to view our dogs and visit our adoption page.
Nukka was the first-born of Hanna's surprise puppies; she was the only puppy in the litter to bear a strong resemblance to her mom! Originally called "Stormy" by her fosters, she has been aptly re-named Nukka by her forever family, which means "Little Sister" in Inuit. Nukka has been adopted by Lisa and her family, where she now has two young human brothers and one fur brother named Bear (who also shares her Husky heritage). So far she has been enjoying playing tug-of-war with all of her brothers and loving the outdoors!
Brady was the youngest of Hanna's surprise litter of pups, but the first to have his Husky ears perk-up! This lucky puppy joins the family of Rob & Erin where he now has three human siblings to play with. Brady is the family's first and only dog, so he gets to look forward to hogging ALL of the attention!
Sometimes fate just plops itself into your lap - as was the case with Diego. Just ONE day after arriving from Mexico, Diego (then "Hector") jumped into my lap and stole my heart. After we arranged for him to meet my other pup Bean, we were sure that it was the perfect match. We couldn't be happier with this crazy, cuddly, happy boy. Diego dotes on his older sister, loves playing fetch, wearing outfits and showing off his "zoomies". He was such a good obedient pup to begin with: Our deepest thanks to fosters Smiti & Dan, and rescuer Pamela in Mexico for giving this boy such a great start. We now can't imagine our lives without him!
A few glimpses of our adoptee Ezra (nee Heart) over the last 7 months. Starting as a lovely but shy girl, she has spent the time coming out of her shell, emerging as one of the sweetest, most playful pups we've ever met. She has only become stronger and more confident with time; she and her brother Jasper are inseparable. We are so lucky to have her in our lives.
We are grateful for Kathy and everyone at BDR!
This pic says it all! Thank you for rescuing Sirius! He's where he belongs now with a warm, comfy bed, a full belly, and tonnes of love!
Nina's been the biggest blessing in my life, and has quickly wiggled her way into my life. Initially, very timid, but BDR has lent a huge amount of help to this once-dog-rookie. Nina's the cat-like dog that I've ever met, but I love her even more for it, and look forward to the many years to come.
Franklin is doing so well! His behaviour has improved so much over these few months and he's even improved with the cat! We've made somewhat of a bond and he gets all pumped up when I get home from work. Always brings me a toy and growls with it in his mouth -so funny! He's still a huge goofball and the happiest dog you'll come across! Hasn't changed except for the better!
My husband and I cannot thank BDR enough for the special gift, our boy Cooper. Our family is now complete, and we don't remember what our life was like before November 8, 2014. He is the sweetest, smartest, most adorable boy in the world and everyone who meets him comments on what an amazing boy he is. I let anyone who asks where he came from and what an organization BDR is.
Matt and I are so lucky we found BDR. We had been looking for a furry friend to add to our family for months and were referred to BDR by a friend in December. We immediately found a picture of Emmett on their Facebook page and fell in love. He's such a great, unique and special dog. When we started to realize Emmett may need a friend, we wouldn't look anywhere else. Luckily, we had already fallen in love with Meeko through the updates on the BDR Facebook page. We were so heartbroken to see how rough Meeko had it in the beginning, but the people at BDR fought tirelessly to make sure Meeko saw it through, and thank goodness they did. No matter where we go, people always ask about how we ended up with such amazing dogs, and we take every opportunity to share their stories and tell them all about BDR. BDR is made up of the most wonderful and kind-hearted people. We have never met such great people and they have made us feel like part of the family after adopting Emmett and Meeko. Thanks so much BDR !!
Marilyn and I have had the privilege of fostering four wonderful dogs so far for Black Dog Rescue. Each and every one has brought nothing but love and warmth into our home, and have been great visitors for our own pack (Minnie, Balto - now over the bridge, and Kai). We miss all of our fostered dogs and parting with each was so hard, yet bittersweet, as we met all of their Furever Owners. We know each and every one is in for a fantastic life.
